QUILT STUDY CENTER LINCOLN NEBRASKA FULL

The building is 3 stories tall and each floor is full of quilts from a different era. This exhibit is in a building of it’s own and on the campus of the University of Nebraska…yes it was hard for me to be here, but I survived. We headed to the International Quilt Study. Since it was after 10:00 our next stop was now open. We walked around both levels, and the views were just breathtaking. It had just rained so that made the garden smell even fresher. There is a beautiful lily pond with some of the biggest coy’s I’ve ever seen. The garden also has a waterfall, a bronze statue with a jug pouring water into the water fall basin. Volunteers are constantly working in the garden. Visitors can tiptoe through the tulips every spring and watch the thousands of annuals bloom all summer long and then enjoy the peaceful winter interest of the varied trees and shrubs. This 1.5 acre lot was first developed in 1930 and most recently renovated in 2004. Don’t worry, we’re not going to try to complete that book too. The theme for 2013 is “Directions.” This is the only Nebraska garden listed in the “300 Best Gardens to Visit in the United States and Canada” by National Geographic Guide to Public Gardens. The Sunken Gardens features an annual floral display that consists of over 30,000 individual annual plants which are redesigned to a different theme each year. There are actually two levels to the garden, and both are spectacular. She said no, that’s across the street, so off we went. So I asked the woman if this was the sunken garden. Our first stop now was the Lincoln Sunken Gardens. Such good time as our first stop wasn’t even open yet. The roads were good and the traffic light so we made good time.
